Art Department 

Windows Hardware Recommendations


  • CPU:  i7, i9, Xeon E3, or AMD equivalent (We recommend i7 or higher)

  • Memory: 8GB or more (Recommended: 16GB+)

  • Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro M2200 4GB (We recommend Quadro M2200 or higher)

  • Network: standard configuration should be accurate (May need to purchase additional ethernet cable adapter depending on the model)  

  • Network Cable: We recommend students bring their own 14-foot or longer Cat-6 ethernet network cable

  • Hard Disk: 256 GB SSD (solid state hard drive) or larger

  • Portable Storage: A USB flash drive is recommended (8GB or larger) or USB external hard drive

  • Warranty: Each student is strongly encouraged to have an extended warranty to cover the life of their laptop (3-4 years). This will help prevent unplanned costs and downtime for the student, or parents, in the event of a hardware malfunction or failure.

  • Antivirus: Northwestern requires that all students have an Antivirus Program installed on their computer with up to date virus definitions before they are allowed to access on the network.

  • Office Suite: All UNW students have free access to Office 365 for their computer and mobile devices upon enrollment and can obtain the latest version of Microsoft Office Suite here.
