There are several ways to check for holds, but the easiest is directly through your Degree Audit. Once you log directly into your personal audit, you may view your listed holds in the Registration Holds field. **You will also receive an error message stating your current hold if you attempt to register with a hold on your account.**

Registering for a Course

Log into theROCK > Student Academics.

You will need to log in using your Northwestern username and password. If needed, contact IT at 651-631-5699 for password assistance.

Within the Dual Enrollment box, click on Register for Classes.

This will take you to a web page with several links and resources. When you are ready to register, select "Register for Classes" from this page.

Select the appropriate semester and click Continue.

If you have registration holds on your account, you will receive an error. Please see "Removing a Registration Hold" above for additional steps.

Selecting and adding courses:

  1. Go to the Find Classes tab:
  2. Click on Advanced Search.
    • Click inside the box next to Part of Term.
    • Select Online through Office of DE, Quad 2 Online through DE, and/or Quad 4 Online through DE.
  3. Click inside the box next to Subject at the top and select or type in the subject for your course (i.e. ENG, HIS).
  4. Click inside the box next to Course Number and type in the course number (i.e. 1105, 1005).
  5. Select Add for all the online sections that you want. This will add the course to your Summary.
    • If you are registering for a lab course and you receive a co-requisite error, it is because you need to register for both the lecture and the lab at the same time. Do not click Submit until both the lecture and lab have been added to your Summary.
  6. Once you have added all sections, click Submit in the lower right-hand corner. The Status will change from "Pending" to "Registered," or you will get a message if the registration did not work.

Adding yourself to a waitlist:

If a course or section of a course that you would like to register for is full, you have the option of adding yourself to the waitlist. If a spot opens up in the course, you will be registered by the Registration Specialist. See Waitlists for more information on our waitlist policies.

Be sure to check your UNW email regularly in case we have questions prior to registering you for your waitlisted course.

Follow steps 1-5 above, noting any courses that are already full. Go to your Summary, and on the dropdown list next to the full course, select "Waitlisted." Then click "Submit". You should now see "Waitlisted" highlighted in green next to the course.

Once you’ve registered, review your schedule!

You may review your course registration by using one of the following tools:

Send your schedule to your high school counselor

  • Log into theROCK > Student Academics and select My Class Schedule from your Dual Enrollment box.
  • Select the appropriate term.
  • Find the icon that looks like a calendar inside of an envelope. Click this, and it will allow you to email your schedule to any email address you type in.

Dropping a Course

Please refer to the Registration Dates & Deadlines above to determine whether or not you may still drop a class that you are registered for.

Prior to the start of a semester (and within a specific date range after the start of each semester) you are able to drop a class without receiving a transcript notation. Please follow these instructions to drop a course:

  2. Within the Dual Enrollment box, click on Register for Classes.
  3. Select the appropriate term and click Continue.
  4. From within your Summary (bottom-right side of screen) scroll to the course you wish to drop. Select "Drop" from the drop-down menu of options.

Withdrawing from a Course

Please refer to the Registration Dates & Deadlines above to determine whether or not you may still withdraw from a class.

After the deadline to drop an online course passes for each semester, there is a window of time during which you may withdraw from a class. Withdrawing from a class will not impact your college GPA in any way, BUT you will receive a grade notation of "W" on your permanent collegiate transcript. You will also not receive credit for a class that you successfully withdraw from.

High School Students: It is HIGHLY recommended that you meet with your high school guidance counselor (as applicable) prior to withdrawing from an online course, to confirm that receiving a "W" in a collegiate course will not result in a grade penalty on your high school transcript.

  1. Log into theROCK > Student Academics.
  2. Within the Dual Enrollment box, click on Forms.
  3. Click on Course-Related Forms.
  4. Click on Course Withdrawal.
  5. Complete and submit this form prior to the withdrawal deadline for the corresponding semester.
